About
Who built UNcommonVCU, why, and what happens to your data.
UNcommonVCU is a student project. A team in a digital marketing course at VCU built it during the fall 2026 semester: a real campaign for a real team.
Why this team, why now
Chelsea Banbury took over VCU women’s basketball on March 31, 2026. She has never had a losing season as a head coach. In seven seasons at High Point she won four Big South regular-season titles and took three teams to the NCAA Tournament. We call her first season at VCU the Unlimited Era.
Richmond already shows up for this team. The SupportHER game in November 2024 drew 6,093 fans, a program record. We want that crowd back for more than one night a year.
What we built
Player profiles, so you can put names to the team. A game day guide and a fan guide for your first trip to the Siegel Center. And The Board, a free leaderboard that gives you points for checking in at home games and bringing friends.
What happens in December
The site and The Board wind down on Monday, December 14, 2026. Before the month is out, we permanently delete every account and every email address. Nothing goes to VCU, to next year’s class, or to anyone else.
Not affiliated
UNcommonVCU isn’t VCU, VCU Athletics or a booster organization. We don’t sell anything or take money. VCU Athletics lets us use its photos, credited to them, but that isn’t an endorsement. From October 26 to November 30 we run a few small ads on Google and Instagram, each labeled as an unofficial student fan site. Tickets link to the official box office, and vcuathletics.com keeps the official record.
We’re on Instagram and TikTok too. Questions? Email murraygj@vcu.edu.
