Privacy

Our privacy policy, short version: we keep your email, a username and your points. We never keep your location. We delete everything in December 2026.

What we collect

• Your email address and a username you choose, when you save your points.
• Your points and how you earned them, so the leaderboard works.
• Your check-ins: which home games you checked in at, and when.
• Never your location. When you tap Check in, your phone shares its position once. We use it to check that you’re at the arena, then drop it. We don’t save it, log it or send it to analytics.
• A copy of each email we send you, so we can fix delivery problems.
• Cookies that keep you signed in, so you don’t need a password. If a friend’s personal link brought you here, a cookie remembers who sent you for 30 days, so they get credit if you join.
• Site analytics through Google Analytics: pages viewed, device, and rough location from your internet connection. From October 26 to November 30 we run ads on Google Search and Instagram. Our ad and profile links carry tags so Google Analytics can tell which link brought a visit. The site also keeps those tags in a cookie for 30 days and notes them with your sign-up and ticket clicks, and counts each visit once per browser session, so we can see which links work. It never stores your IP address. Right now the site loads no ad pixels and does no retargeting. If we add Google or Meta ad tools, we’ll update this page before they go live. Google and Meta keep that data under their own policies. You can opt out in your Google and Meta ad settings.
• Nothing from our Instagram or TikTok accounts except totals. If you follow, comment or message us there, that stays with Instagram or TikTok under their own policies. We see the usual account insights, like reach and likes, in total.

How we use it

• To run The Board. The public leaderboard shows your username and points, never your email.
• To email you: the confirm email when you join, a note on home game days, and the sign-in codes you ask for. The confirm email has a button to press. After that, you sign in with a six-digit code that works for 15 minutes, only in the browser that asked for it.
• If someone asks to sign in with an address that has no account, we send that address one email on how to join, at most once a day. We don’t keep the address. A scrambled version stays for a day to enforce that limit.
• To count opens of a fan’s personal link and clicks on ticket links, once per device per day, using a scrambled code that changes daily. If you’re signed in when you tap a ticket link, the click is logged with your account number.
• To slow down spam. We hold a scrambled copy of your IP address for up to an hour, then drop it.
• To report on the project. Our class project team sees activity by account number only, never your email or username.

What we never do

• Sell, rent or share your email address with anyone, VCU included.
• Show your email to other fans.
• Store or share your location.
• Email you about anything besides The Board.
• Knowingly collect an email address from anyone under 13. The Board is for fans 13 and older. If you think a child under 13 has signed up, email us and we’ll delete the account.

Your choices

Every email has an unsubscribe link, and your account page has an email switch. Unsubscribing stops everything except the codes you ask for.

You can delete your account anytime from your account page. We email you a six-digit code to confirm, then erase your account, points, check-ins and the emails we sent you, and you leave the leaderboard. The unsubscribe page offers the same.

December

This is a semester project. The site and The Board wind down on Monday, December 14, 2026. Before the month is out, we permanently delete the whole database: every account, email address, check-in and point. Nothing goes to VCU, to next year’s class, or to anyone else. We also delete our Google Analytics data, after saving the totals for our class report.
